This week was the first week that I consistently rode the bus to work. My bike has needed some repairs for the last couple of weeks and I finally had time to do some myself and take it into a bike shop for some more involved repairs. But that won't be done until next weekend meaning I'll have more time for Duo Lingo and reading on my commute this week.
Friday I had a virtual job interview for next year and it went really well! Things are continuing to fall in place for Gretta and I to move to Ann Arbor. Hopefully, I'll have some more concrete plans in the next couple weeks.
At work I continue to be busy sending out mailing, responding to orientation requests, and helping out on the hotline. We're starting to encounter people who crossed after Title 42 was lifted and often find that they're getting even less information about their immigration cases than before Title 42 was lifted. It's also even harder for people to request asylum as they can now be denied on the basis that they didn't use the CBP1 app to schedule an appointment or because they didn't request asylum in a country that they passed through on their journey to the U.S. Most migrants don't even know that these requirements exist.
When we returned from our Rocky Point retreat I had this little friend waiting for me on my bed. People who live in Tucson understand the prevalence of these lizards but for my non-desert readers, lizards are every where. Our house has experienced shower lizards, under-oven lizards, and now bed lizards. Who knows where else we'll run into lizards before our year ends.
Saturday, Andrea, Michaela and I filled our days with baking and reading. I made sour dough bagels again and prepared some sour dough pizza dough while Andrea and Michaela made croissants! We got Sonoran hot dogs from a food truck for lunch and spent a relaxing afternoon by the pool of one of our support committee members. A couple more pictures from our Sonoran hot dog and swimming pool Saturday are in the Google photo album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/rFXtPMJf9GjWMsFd9
Last week I commented, yet don’t see it posted, so let me reconstruct my reply. It felt like I was connected at a deeper level with humanity, for public transit is used more by the common person. Down earth good people. And school kids energy riding the 17 or the 1 instead of the usual yellow school bus. And a trans woman on Sun Tran most days reminded me of society learning expanded kindness, respect, and equality. In an Us versus Them tendency in our world. And the AC was always a welcome respite from…
