Week 45: On the Road to MennoCon

This week marked our last week together as four people in the MVS house. I’m currently writing from Michaela’s house where we’ve stopped for lunch on our cross-country trek to Kansas City for MennoCon 23. The four of us have joined other Shalomites in this mini-bus featured below. My road trip activities have included watching the new season of Jack Ryan on Amazon prime and reading until I fall asleep and then reading some more.

If you’re also in Kansas City for convention, look for us at our seminar on Tuesday at 9 am and the MMN booth on Tuesday and Thursday evenings! We’re also hoping to make our seminar available via livestream so be sure to follow @tucsonmvs on Instagram for those updates.

Driving across the country has reminded me of all the different ecosystems in the U.S. Living in Tucson I’ve become used to the Sonoran desert but today I’m writing from the heart of the central plains with trees, grass, and humidity. This wasn’t a change I witnessed on my way out to Tucson since I flew and not something I’ll experience when I leave in two weeks, on July 15th.

After a fairly normal week of work, Andrea and I did some deep cleaning of our house on Saturday while Michaela and Jessie packed and prepared to leave. Deep cleaning included wiping out the refrigerator and vacuuming behind the oven. Overall, our house didn’t require too much in terms of deep cleaning because we did a fairly thorough weekly clean.

Emotions were running a bit higher at the house this week so having projects on Saturday gave me something to do and remain present while we enjoyed another day together at our house. We also made some of our favorite meals for dinner this week including black bean burgers and sweet potato fries, pad Thai, green curry, sweet potato vegan Mac and cheese, and pizza. And of course, we rounded out Saturday evening with a picnic at Windy Point, up in the Catalina Mountains, and raspados, and ice/ice cream and fruit dessert we enjoyed from a local heladería (ice cream shop).

I finished another puzzle this week, maybe the last one, maybe not. No promises.
