Week 39: Visitors in Tucson (pt. 4)

Sore feet and tired legs failed to detract from this Sonoran sunset.

My brother, Wyatt, came out to visit me starting on Wednesday evening and will be here until Monday morning. Thursday we did a 13 mile hike and it was tough. We ended the hike 6 hours later feeling a bit overheated and with blistered feet. Friday we decided to take it easier, riding the bus downtown and joining my housemates for lunch at one of our favorite spots, Maico, for burritos. That afternoon we did some driving around Tucson, picking up a culture pass for the zoo and trying to find a new wheel for my bike before cooling off in a theater for an afternoon movie. Saturday morning, we took the bus to the Reid Park Zoo, a fun little zoo in Tucson with anteaters, meerkats, capybara and other animals. That afternoon, we drove down to the San Xavier mission for fry bread, checking off another Tucson tourist hot-spot. We rounded off the weekend with an evening hike up to Gate's Pass and dinner at La Indita Mexican Restaurant.

Yes, Wyatt and I do have matching Chacos but that wasn't on purpose and he did have them first.

In the middle of my time with Wyatt, my house hosted some choir members from Hesston College's Bel Canto during their southwest tour. We had four students stay with us and it was very special to be a small part of their exciting experience. It brought back a lot of great memories from my experiences on choir tour, specifically when I was a student touring the southwest and stopped at Shalom 4 years before I would return as a VSer.

At work this week I had some strong moments of connection with colleagues talking about my plans for next year and helping celebrate another client's 18th birthday. The Florence Project has been a great learning environment for me these last 9 months and I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had with them. I'm excited to begin working with the new interns and legal assistants that were recently hired. It's fun to get to know new people and hear their stories about how they got to this point at the Florence Project.
